What does recovering from domestic violence mean? How do you know when you have healed? When does life go back to normal?
It doesn’t.
Domestic violence creates trauma, and a person’s trauma history cannot be erased. Metaphoria details my first 8 months of grappling with the psychological consequences of being a domestic violence survivor after escaping my abuser. I learned to accept my history. I learned to cope with the complex symptoms I developed. I grew around my trauma, but recovery isn’t a straight path. It winds, circles, charges forward, rolls back, and plunges up again.

Are you a domestic violence survivor? This book is for you. I published this poetry collection to let you know you are not alone. May this book serve as a source of empathy when you feel isolated in your journey. Don’t give up. Keep growing. The greatest revenge is pursuing a fulfilled life in whatever fashion that means for you.
Do you know a domestic violence survivor? This book is also for you to develop some understanding, but I share just one survivor perspective. Seek to learn the survivor you know and ask how you can help them.
